Needlepoint Kits for Rugs

Needlepoint kits - Rugs are an interesting way to do something different with your needlepoint kit. Discover the craft with many types of designs on a needlepoint rug. You can turn a rug into any shape or size, using any motif of your choice. Below are some simple steps to turn any needlepoint design into a needlepoint rug.

1. Collect the materials like
  • needlepoint  supplies – fabric
  • wool, needlepoint supplies – yarn
  • needlepoint supplies – needle
  • pattern of your choice
  • safety masking tape
  • thumb tacks to fix the rug
  • a piece of plywood or drawing board big enough to stretch the piece on
2. The needlepoint kits - fabric needs to be cut a couple of inches larger on each side than you would like the finished rug to be. Use of masking tape to cover all the raw edges avoids the fabric to unravel. Now, transfer your design to the fabric.

3. Stitch up your needlepoint rug  with the main image of the motif and work your way to the background. Use one of the many techniques you find easy to stitch your design.

4. Block up your piece so that it is of desired size and shape. Slightly wet the piece so it is stretchable and work on it with blocking board. Tack both the corners of the piece then work clockwise , stretching when needed and afterwards work on the middle.

5. Spray with water and let it dry for few days, then trim on row of stitches and back your rug with material like heavy cotton, canvas or jute.

6. With a blind stitch all around sides your handmade needlepoint rug is ready to be admired.
