Selection of beautiful yarn is as important when you are doing needlepoint work. There are many colors, textures and different weight yarns to choose from. Needlepoint work is wonderful not just as a hobby, but also the amount of beauty and pleasure it brings to us and our loved ones after it is completed and preserved over the years.
Needlepoint work is taken to another dimension once the knitting and blocking is complete. You will find it most effective on simple stitch patterns. Many types of yarn can be used , but you should select one that is smooth enough to go through the knitted fabric. Look for the yarn whose weight and content is appropriate for the knit piece. Yarns that are too thin will easily sink into the fabric, and too-thick yarn will stretch out the piece spoiling your work. The needlepoint yarn should have the same care properties as the yarn used for your sweater and should be colorfast. You should work evenly and not too tightly, using a blunt needle with an eye large enough to accommodate the yarn but it should not be so large that it will split the stitches. Best way to begin your work is thread the yarn by folding it around the needle and inserting the folded end into the eye. Do not knot the end of your yarn, but weave it through to the place where you will begin your needle pointing.
